The Department of Foreign Languages at National Chiayi University invites applications for a contract English teaching position beginning February 1, 2027. The appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract basis.

Position Title: Contract-track Faculty Member

Rank: Assistant Professor or above

Field: Linguistics

Qualifications

1.     Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Linguistics or a related field from an accredited Taiwanese or international university.

2.     Preference will be given to candidates with expertise and practical experience in areas such as Computational Linguistics, Phonology, Digital Humanities, or Teaching Chinese as a Second Language.

3.     Applicants who do not hold a Ph.D. degree from an international university and who lack at least one year of overseas postdoctoral research experience must provide proof of foreign language proficiency (e.g., language proficiency certificates) or other supporting documentation demonstrating adequate language ability. The minimum requirements and acceptable forms of proof are specified in Attachment 1.

Required Documents

Any interested candidates have to submit the following documents or materials for consideration of employment.

1.     Application form (Attachment 2)

2.     CV in English.

3.     Autobiography in English

4.     Photocopies of doctoral degree certificate and transcripts for both master’s and doctoral studies. In case transcripts are unavailable, applicants must state the reason. Applicants holding degrees from foreign institutions must have their degree certificates, transcripts, and other relevant documents authenticated by an overseas ROC embassy, representative office, economic and cultural office, or any institution authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). In addition, a personal entry/exit record issued by the National Immigration Agency must be provided.

5.     Abstract of master’s and doctoral theses.

6.     A list of publications and academic works. (Attachment 3)

7.     At least three representative works from the past five years (including the doctoral dissertation) (offprints or photocopies).

8.     The syllabuses of courses taught or able to teach

9.     Two sealed and signed recommendation letters within five years. The letters can either be enclosed with the application's documents or postal mailed from the referees to the department. The name of the applicant should be written on the envelope of the recommendation letters. If sending by email, please indicate the applicant's name in the subject.

10.   Affidavit regarding whether the prospective employee (or current position holder) has household registration in Mainland China or possesses a Mainland Chinese passport, identity card, residence permit, or residence certificate. (To be completed only by individuals who hold a Taiwan household registration.) (Attachment 4).

11.   Any other recognized certificates or documents favorable for potential employment (For example, teaching certificate, certificate of foreign language proficiency, teaching evaluation, or other professional certificates)

Notes

1.     All applicants must be able to teach basic English language courses offered by the Department and other departments, such as English composition, speaking practice, reading, or freshman English.

2.     Contract-track assistant professors are required to teach a minimum of 12 hours per week.

3.     Contract faculty members are expected to assist with departmental and university affairs, including serving as student advisors, supporting recruitment activities, coaching students for intercollegiate competitions, and scheduling at least one hour per week for extracurricular English conversation sessions with students.

Foreign Language Proficiency Standards Table

1. English proficiency certificates：Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency at CEFR Level C2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

2. Other Acceptable Evidence of Foreign Language Proficiency：

(1) Having received Ministry of Science and Technology funding for postdoctoral research abroad for more than one year.

(2) Having conducted research abroad for more than one year.

(3) Having served as a visiting scholar abroad for more than one year.

(4) Providing documented evidence of teaching courses conducted in a foreign language.

(5) Conducting a full English oral presentation or teaching demonstration during the departmental review interview.

(6) The entire interview should be audio and video recorded and archived for reference.
